Getting Started with Multiplication Facts
Step 1: Before we begin to memorize our Times Tables, we need to understand that Multiplication is a form of Addition.
Example: 3 x 5 is the same as 3 groups of 5. So, if we count by 5's three times, we get the answer: 15

Sometimes it helps to use our fingers to keep track of how high we have counted. 3 x 5 =15 |
Step 2: We should also understand that multiplication has a Communicative Property. That means that 3 x 5 is the same as 5 x 3. We can prove it by using the method from step 1.

If we count by 3's five times, we get the same answer as if we count by 5's three times 5 x 3 =15 3 x 5 =15 |
Step 3: Throughout this website there are many different strategies for learning our multiplication tables. Some of the strategies may seem awkward or confusing. You should choose to use the strategies that work for you. It is very important that the strategies that you use make sense to you.
Step 4: Once steps 1,2,and 3 have been covered, go to the Documents page and print out a copy of the Times Tables and then get started.
